Police lay charges after Flaggy Creek search uncovers explosives materials

East Gippsland Crime Investigation Unit detectives have charged a man after uncovering a large quantity of materials allegedly used to manufacture explosives during a search warrant in Flaggy Creek.

Detectives attended the Flaggy Creek Road address on 10 February after receiving information that an occupant at the address was purchasing the materials.

Investigators executed a search warrant at the address where they located a large quantity of chemical substances and other materials related to the manufacture of explosive substances.

The Arson and Explosives Squad and a Victoria Police Forensic Services Centre Arson Chemist attended the scene with East Gippsland CIU members again on 11 February where a full search of the property was conducted.

A 53-year-old Flaggy Creek man was arrested and has since been charged with multiple counts of possess prescribed precursor chemical as well as firearms and weapons related offences.

He has been remanded to face Sale Magistrate's Court on Monday, 15 February.
