Police lay charges after police incident at Kingaroy

Police have charged a 26-year-old Kingaroy man following an incident at Kingaroy that began yesterday morning (21/03/2022).

It will be alleged that officers attended a Doonkuna Street residence around 6am to locate the man for a return to prison warrant and a number of outstanding matters.

When attempting to arrest the man, he has allegedly obstructed police and then barricaded himself in one of the residence's bedrooms and armed himself with multiple weapons.

Police invoked an emergency declaration under the Public Safety Preservation Act (PSPA) at 8:40am, with police negotiators and specialist police also deployed.

Police maintained a cordon around the property for several hours while the operation was ongoing.

Around 3:30pm, the man surrendered himself into police custody without incident.

Following his arrest, the emergency declaration was revoked.

He has since been charged with one count each of serious assault of a police officer, wilful damage (domestic violence), common assault (domestic violence), possession of dangerous drug and possession of drug utensil, and four counts of contravention of a domestic violence order.

He appeared in Murgon Court this morning.
