Police lay charges after police operation - Menai

A man has been charged after a police operation in Menai yesterday.

About 10.50am (Monday 23 September 2019), emergency services were called to a home on Court Place following reports a man had armed himself with a knife.

Police were told the man had earlier allegedly threatened a man in Rosewell Drive in Menai and scratched a car at the scene, before he left and walked to his house on Court Place.

Officers attached to Sutherland Shire Police Area Command attended and the man locked himself inside the premises.

Police Negotiators and Tactical Operations Unit Police were called to assist.

Shortly after, the 39-year-old man was arrested inside his home. He was taken to Sutherland Hospital for medical treatment after sustaining a minor cut to his foot.

He was charged with armed with intent to commit indictable offence and destroying property.

He was refused bail and will appear before Sutherland Local Court today (Tuesday 24 September 2019).
