Police lay charges after South Melbourne aggravated burglary

Stonnington Crime Investigation Unit detectives have charged a man following an aggravated burglary in South Melbourne overnight.

Investigators were told the victim heard noises at his Coventry Street home around 3.15am.

When the victim went to investigate, he saw a man reach through a window and allegedly take the victims wallet off a table near the window.

Police were called and the alleged offender was arrested a short time later in the street.

A 39-year-old man of no fixed address has been charged with aggravated burglary, thefts, trespass, obtaining property by deception and bail offences.

He will appear at the Melbourne Magistrates' Court later this morning.
