Police lay charges after stabbing in South Geelong

Geelong Crime Investigation Unit detectives have charged a man following a stabbing in South Geelong last night.

A 73-year-old woman was walking home from a family member's house along Mundy Street about 7pm.

When she reached the corner of Bellarine Street, it's alleged a man approached her from behind and stabbed her several times before walking away.

The South Geelong woman managed to seek assistance from a residence on Mundy Street and was taken to hospital with serious injuries.

Investigators arrested the South Geelong man at his address a short time later.

A 32-year-old South Geelong man has been charged with intentionally cause serious injury.

He will appear in Geelong Magistrates' Court this afternoon.
