Police lay charges after women assaulted - Annandale

A man has been charged with attempted murder after two women were assaulted in Sydney's Inner West earlier this week.

About 5am on Monday 8 February 2021, emergency services were called to a home on Ferris Street, Annandale, following reports two women had been injured.

Police have been told a man allegedly punched a 27-year-old woman in the head, before a 29-year-old woman intervened and was struck with a weapon, believed to be a samurai sword.

The man fled on foot and the women went to another home on the same street to seek assistance.

The women were treated by NSW Ambulance paramedics at the scene before being taken to Royal Prince Alfred Hospital and treated for their injuries.

Officers attached to Leichhardt Police Area Command attended and established crime scenes.

A number of items including a samurai sword have been seized for forensic examination.

Following patrols of the area, police arrested a 44-year-old man on Macquarie Street, who allegedly hid behind a parked car.

During the arrest the man suffered an injury to his shoulder and was taken to the Royal Prince Alfred Hospital under police guard.

He has since been charged with assault occasioning actual bodily harm, wound with intent to murder and trespassing.

He was formally refused bail and will appear at Newtown Local Court today (Wednesday 10 February 2021)
