Northern Territory Police have extradited a 26-year-old man from South Australia for serious domestic violence and driving offences in the NT.
Police will allege that on 21 September 2023 the man seriously assaulted his partner at a business premise in the Alice Springs CBD. He drove from the scene before crashing a short time later. It is alleged that he later fled to South Australia to avoid apprehension.
On 28 March 2024 the man was arrested by detectives from South Australia Police, where NT investigators travelled to Adelaide to extradite him.
Investigators from the Southern Domestic and Family Violence Unit have now charged him with:
- Recklessly endanger serious harm
- Aggravated assault
- Engage in conduct that contravenes DVO
- Driving, using/riding motor vehicle without consent
- Armed with an offensive weapon
- Engage in violent conduct
- Drive a motor vehicle in a manner dangerous
- Drive a motor vehicle unregistered/uninsured vehicle less than 12 months
- Drive a motor vehicle unlicensed
- Damage to property
He was remanded to appear in Alice Springs Local Court today.
Detective Acting Senior Sergeant David Munro said " This was a particularly violent attack with this individual having been an active arrest target for some time and thanks to our collaboration with other jurisdictions we now have him in custody.
"NT Police will not stand for domestic and family violence and this man will face court for it."
