Greater Shepparton City Council is pleased to announce that Her Excellency the Honourable Sam Mostyn AC, Governor-General of the Commonwealth of Australia, has accepted an invitation to attend the 2026 Shepparton Show as part of the Show's 150th anniversary celebrations.
The annual Shepparton Show has been a cornerstone of the region's events calendar for generations, featuring traditional agricultural competitions, livestock judging, family entertainment, community displays, food vendors and Sideshow Alley.
This year marks 150 years of the Show, which has brought together generations of residents, farmers, businesses, exhibitors, volunteers and visitors. Over the decades, the event has reflected the strength of the region's agricultural sector while providing an opportunity for the community to enjoy a unique country show experience.
Mayor, Councillor Shane Sali, extended an informal invitation to Her Excellency when they spoke at the Australian Local Government Association National General Assembly earlier this year. Cr Sali shared the significance of the milestone and the opportunity for Greater Shepparton to host the Governor-General.
"I am delighted that Her Excellency has accepted my invitation and Greater Shepparton looks forward to welcoming her to our region as we mark this historic milestone for the Shepparton Show," he said.
"Her attendance recognises the importance of the Show not only to Greater Shepparton, but also its contribution to regional Australia and our agricultural heritage.
"For 150 years, the Shepparton Show has brought people together and highlighted the innovation, dedication and resilience that help make our region such a great place to live and work."
Shepparton Agricultural Society President, Kevin Winch, acknowledged Mayor Shane Sali's support, the excitement of the Governor-General's attendance, and the hard work of the committee over many years.
"Past and current committee members have worked so hard over many years to deliver the Shepparton Show. It is because of the committee's hard work that we have been able to reach this 150-year milestone," he said.
"Without the support of Council, the Show would not exist. It is always a great exhibition of local products, our dairy displays and our agricultural industry more broadly and we can't wait to celebrate this special occasion with the community next month."
Cr Sali thanked the Shepparton Agricultural Society Committee for its dedication and commitment to the Show over many years.
"The Society's volunteers have played an important role in ensuring the ongoing success of the Show. Council looks forward to working closely with the committee to welcome Her Excellency and deliver a memorable event for the community," Cr Sali said.
