Police Lay Charges - Domestic Violence In Alice Springs 19 June

A 43-year-old male has been arrested and charged following a domestic violence incident and subsequent police pursuit that occurred in Alice Springs yesterday evening.

Around 10:20pm, the Joint Emergency Services Communication Centre received a report that a male was allegedly assaulting his partner at a residence in Kilgariff.

Upon police arrival, it was established the offender and victim had left the scene in a Holden Commodore. A short time later, a Road Policing Unit sighted the vehicle travelling west along Bradshaw Drive and a pursuit was initiated. The pursuit was subsequently terminated due to safety concerns as the Commodore began driving erratically.

Tyre deflation devices were successfully deployed on the vehicle further along Bradshaw Drive and the vehicle continued through the intersection at Larapinta Drive and crashed into a stormwater drain. The victim and a second adult male passenger were located at the crash location and conveyed to the Alice Springs Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The 43-year-old offender fled from the vehicle on foot and was arrested nearby in scrubland. He was also conveyed to the Alice Springs Hospital for assessment of non-life-threatening injuries.

He has since been charged with:

  • Multiple traffic offences including Drive Dangerous Manner Pursuit
  • Engage in conduct that contravenes DVO
  • Aggravated assault
  • Recklessly endangering serious harm

He was remanded in custody to appear in court on Monday 22 June.
