Police lay charges - Fatal crash - Alawa

Northern Territory Police have charged a male in relation to a fatal motor vehicle crash that occurred earlier this morning.

The 21-year-old male was the driver of a motor vehicle containing four people which was involved in a crash after a short pursuit with police. The vehicle ran a red light at the intersection of Trower Road and Lakeside Drive before colliding with a second vehicle.

A 36-year-old female passenger died at the scene. There were two other passengers in the vehicle who sustained serious injuries. The driver of the second vehicle also remains at Royal Darwin Hospital with serious injuries.

The 21-year-old male was charged with:

  • Drive motor vehicle cause death

  • Drive motor vehicle cause serious harm
  • Recklessly endanger life x 3
  • Drive dangerously during pursuit
  • Drive unregistered
  • Drive uninsured
  • Drive unlicensed
  • Fail to obey direction of police.

He has been remanded to appear in court on Wednesday 19 May.
