Police lay charges - Firearm offences - Wulagi

Northern Territory Police have charged a man in relation to replica firearm offences in Wulagi earlier this week.

At 3:20am on Monday, police received reports of a man allegedly in possession of a firearm in the carpark of a shopping precinct on Brolga Street, Wulagi. He left the area in a vehicle which was apprehended by police a short time later.

A replica firearm was seized from the vehicle, along with a quantity of ammunition.

The 18-year-old driver was arrested and issued a Notice to Appear for:

  • Possess/use prohibited firearm
  • Possess firearm under the influence of drugs/alcohol
  • P-plater drive motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol/drugs

He is due to appear in Darwin Local Court on 8 February 2023.

Sergeant Bryan Duffy said "Replica or imitation firearms are controlled weapons. It is an offence to possess, use or carry one, unless the appropriate permit has been approved.

"These weapons are almost indistinguishable from the real thing and can cause undue fear and risk to the general public when used in a threatening manner.

"I commend the CCTV operators who quickly identified the man, resulting in a quick arrest and seizure of the weapon."
