Police lay charges following Collingwood Assault

Yarra Crime Investigation Unit detectives have charged two following an alleged assault in Collingwood yesterday morning (1 March).

A 19-year-old Fitzroy North man has been charged with causing serious injury in circumstances of gross violence and committing an indictable offence while on bail.

An 18-year-old Fitzroy man has been charged with causing serious injury in circumstances of gross violence.

Both men will appear at Melbourne Magistrates' Court later today.

The victim, a 41-year-old Collingwood man, was walking along the road when he was approached by two men and allegedly assaulted with a hammer.

He sustained life threatening injuries and was taken to hospital where he remains in a critical condition.
