Police Lay Charges Over Assault At Tamworth

A man has been charged following an alleged assault in the state's northeast yesterday.

Officers attached to Oxley Police District were called to a hotel on Peel Street, Tamworth, about 12.15am yesterday (Sunday 28 June 2026), following reports of an assault.

Police arrived and were told a 19-year-old man had allegedly threatened another man – aged in his 20s – with a knife before chasing him along Peel Street.

The 19-year-old then allegedly returned to the hotel before brandishing the knife at security guards and making verbal threats.

Police arrested a 19-year-old man in the hotel carpark and seized a knife.

The man was taken to Tamworth Police Station where he was charged with nine offences,

· Armed with intent commit indictable offence (three counts)

· Stalk/intimidate intend fear physical etc harm (personal) (three counts)

· Three or more people use violence cause fear

· Custody of knife in public place

· Assault.

He was refused bail and appeared before Bail Division Court 5 yesterday (Sunday 28 June 2026), where he was formally refused bail to reappear at Tamworth Local Court on Monday 13 July 2026.
