Police lay charges over drug offences at Nhulunbuy 23 September

Northern Territory Police arrested a 41-year-old male and a 34-year-old female from a remote West Arnhem community in relation to serious drug offences yesterday afternoon.

Police executed a search warrant on a vehicle belonging to the male. The search located a commercial amount of cannabis along with methamphetamine and drug implements. The drugs and vehicle were seized.

The couple have been charged with:

  • possess commercial quantity of schedule 2 drug
  • supply commercial quantity of schedule 2 drug
  • possess less than traffickable quantity of schedule 1 dangerous drug.

Senior Sergeant Milde said, "This was some fantastic work by Nhulunbuy police members who have stopped the distribution of these drugs into a vulnerable community. The seizure was extremely large and police estimate the cannabis would have sold for $100,000 in the community. The flow of dangerous drugs into these communities have significant impacts on the health and finances of community members and we will continue to target this offending to keep our communities safe".
