Police lay charges over fatal crash - Riverina

A man has been charged following investigations into a fatal crash in the state's Riverina region earlier this month.

About 6.20pm on Saturday 18 December 2021, emergency services were called to Kidman Way – about 25km from Hillston – following reports a Toyota Camry had crashed into a tree.

The occupants – a woman and two men – were freed from the vehicle and treated at the scene by NSW Ambulance paramedics.

The rear-seat passenger – a 36-year-old woman – was taken to Griffith Base Hospital with critical injuries, where she later died.

The front-seat passenger – a 37-year-old man – was uninjured, while the driver – a 24-year-old man – was taken to Wagga Wagga Base Hospital with chest injuries.

Officers attached to the Crash Investigation Unit (CIU) attended the scene and commenced an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.

The driver was arrested following his release from hospital yesterday (Tuesday 28 December 2021).

He was taken to Griffith Police Station and charged with dangerous driving occasioning death – drive manner dangerous, and negligent driving occasioning death. His licence was also suspended.

The Guyra man was granted strict conditional bail and is due to appear at Griffith Local Court on Wednesday 16 February 2022.
