Police lay charges over Tamworth stabbing

A man has been charged after an attempted armed robbery in Tamworth in which a man was stabbed.

About 2pm on Wednesday (31 July 2019), a man entered a home on Robert Street and threatened the 56-year-old male occupant with a knife, demanding money.

A scuffle ensued during which the male occupant was stabbed twice to the neck.

The man was taken to Tamworth Base Hospital before being airlifted to John Hunter Hospital for surgery. He remains there in a critical but stable condition.

Detectives from Oxley Police District commenced an investigation.

About 4.30pm yesterday (Thursday 1 August 2019), officers attended a home on Westow Crescent, Oxley Vale, where they arrested a 26-year-old man.

He was taken to Tamworth Police Station and charged with aggravated assault with intent to rob with wounding.

He was refused bail to appear at Tamworth Local Court today (Friday 2 August 2019).
