Police lay charges - Sexual Assault in Katherine

Northern Territory Police have arrested and charged a man following a domestic violence incident on Sunday night.

Detectives from the Katherine Criminal Investigation Branch will allege that the 20 year-old-male engaged in a sustained period of assault on his 19 year-old-female de-facto partner over 12 hours at their residence.

As a result the victim was flown to Royal Darwin Hospital for treatment of her injuries.

Since the incident, the male actively avoided police, however yesterday the male was arrested and charged with:

• 1 x Sexual intercourse without consent

• 1 x Aggravated assault

• 1 x Choking, strangling or suffocating in a domestic relationship

He has been remanded in custody to appear at Katherine Local Court today.
