Police Liaison Officer Bulle in Multicultural QLD Month

Queensland Police Service (QPS) is proud to shine a Multicultural Queensland Month Police Liaison Officer (PLO) spotlight on PLO Faysal Bulle.

For PLO Bulle, policing is about connection, trust and creating pathways to belonging.

He said his decision to join QPS as a PLO was driven by his commitment to service and a desire to build stronger, more inclusive communities.

"A passion for serving community and a strong desire to bridge the gap between culturally and linguistically diverse communities and law enforcement were the driving forces behind my decision," PLO Bulle said.

PLO Bulle migrated to Australia from Somalia in 2013 and says he understands the challenges faced by many migrants who have gone through similar experiences to him.

From language barriers to distrust in authorities, PLO Bulle says he recognises the need for greater understanding for each individual's circumstances.

PLO Bulle thrives on the day-to-day interactions he has with community members across Townsville and says he takes a lot of pride in helping people stay safe and feel seen.

"Whether it is helping someone understand their rights, supporting them through a difficult time or simply having a meaningful conversation, I know I can make a real difference in people's lives," he said.

"Every day is an opportunity to make a difference, even if it is a small one."

PLO Bulle is also an advocate for inclusivity beyond cultural boundaries.

He is actively involved in youth co-responder late night hoops- a program designed for at-risk youths.

The program is delivered in partnership with Townsville Basketball and creates a safe and engaging environment through structured evening basketball games - complete with coaching, mentorship and pizza.

The late-night hoops program is part of the broader youth co-responder initiative, which isa partnership initiative led by Department of Youth Justice and Victim Support, and QPS.

These specialised teams proactively engage with at-risk youth across common hangout spots like parks and shopping centres, sometimes helping a young person get home or diverting them from harmful situations.

PLO Bulle explains the goal of the program is simple: build relationships, reduce offending, and increase community safety through positive and consistent engagement.

No matter where he finds himself within the community, PLO Bulle brings energy, empathy and a strong sense of purpose to his work.

By building trust, supporting inclusion, and showing up with heart, he is helping shape a safer and more connected Queensland.
