Police make arrest after firearms investigation

Police from Geelong have arrested and charged a Batesford man with a number of offences following a firearms investigation.

Police arrested the 46-year-old at a service station in Thompson Road, North Geelong about 8.15am today as part of the on-going investigation.

A warrant was then executed at an address in Cross Street, Batesford where it is alleged police found firearms, ammunition, commercial grade fireworks and body armour.

The man has been charged with numerous offences including prohibited person possess handgun, prohibited person possess silencer, prohibited person possess longarm and prohibited person possess imitation firearm.

He has been remanded to appear at Geelong Magistrates' Court tomorrow.
