Police make arrest - Domestic violence in Alice Springs

An 18-year-old man will appear before the Alice Springs Local Court on multiple charges in relation to a domestic violence incident in Alice Springs yesterday.

The man is alleged to have caused criminal damage to the vehicle being driven by an 18-year-old woman on top of Anzac Hill just before 6am on Sunday.

It is alleged the man conducted dangerous driving, repeatedly rammed the woman's vehicle and made multiple attempts to block her vehicle by swerving in front of her, while driving around Alice Springs yesterday.

It will be further alleged the man physically assaulted the woman a number of times before she was able to call police and flag down a passing police vehicle.

The woman was transported to the Alice Springs Hospital with a broken jaw, and the man was arrested by police following a foot pursuit.

The man has been remanded in custody to appear before court today, charged with one count each of the following charges;

  • Intend cause serious harm
  • Deprive a person of personal liberty
  • Damage to property exceeding $1500
  • Recklessly endangering serious harm
  • Drive matter dangerous
  • Drive unlicensed
  • Interfere with motor vehicle
  • Aggravated assault
  • Endanger occupants of a vehicle
  • Fail to rescue/provide help
