Police make arrest - Drugs seized in Alice Springs

Northern Territory Police have arrested and charged a man who was found in possession of significant quantity of drugs with a street value of almost $100,000, in Alice Springs last week.

The 63-year-old man who was travelling to Alice Springs was stopped by police who conducted a search of his vehicle on Friday February 22.

It will be alleged police located a replica firearm within the vehicle during the search.

Drug Detector Dog Nikki was deployed and returned a positive response to two tyres in a trailer at the back of the vehicle, which revealed 3.976kgs of cannabis, which has a local street value of $99,400.

The man was arrested and taken to the Alice Springs Watch house where he was later charged with;

1 x Supply Schedule 2 - Commercial quantity

1 x Possess scheduled 2 - Commercial quantity

1 x Possess/use prohibited firearm.

He has been remanded to appear before the Alice Springs Local Court on March 2, 2020.
