The Northern Territory Police Force has arrested a man after he allegedly targeted police with his vehicle in Alice Springs overnight.
Around 10:30pm, several units responded to disturbances occurring on Todd Street involving multiple people.
Police will alleged a 38-year-old man drove a blue Mazda BT-50 dual cab at speed at an officer standing on the road and footpath, and a parked police vehicle, which was still occupied by the driver.
A police member drew his firearm and allegedly discharged three rounds at the oncoming vehicle, with the rounds striking the vehicle. No one was injured by the fired rounds.
The vehicle rammed into the rear of the police vehicle with significant force.
The member seated in the police vehicle was conveyed to Alice Springs Hospital with minor injuries and has since been discharged.
The 38-year-old offender was conveyed to hospital for precautionary assessment.
A crime scene has been established and investigations into the incident are underway, with oversight from the Professional Standards Command.
Commissioner Martin Dole said " The deliberate targeting of our hard working officers is absolutely abhorrent and we will not stand for it. Every time our officers attend an incident, they are putting their lives at risk to keep the community safe. This is a clear example of the split second decisions our officers can be forced to make whilst protecting the community."
