Police make arrest - Ram raids in Alice Springs

Northern Territory Police have arrested a 15-year-old male in relation to a series of property offences in Central Australia.

Late last month, the youth allegedly stole a Toyota Troop Carrier from a remote community in the Barkly Region, picking up a number of other youths and driving to Alice Springs.

The vehicle was used in two ram raid incidents, causing extensive damage to both commercial properties. The group then allegedly unlawfully entered a third commercial property on the Stuart Highway stealing a large quantity of alcohol and cigarettes before abandoning the vehicle and allegedly stealing another vehicle, a Mitsubishi utility.

Police observed the stolen Mitsubishi travelling on the Stuart Highway, an apprehension was attempted however abandoned due to a passenger hanging out of a window throwing a number of full beer cans at the police vehicle.

The group later then returned to the commercial property on the Stuart Highway before allegedly smashing the store window and stealing a quantity of alcohol.

In early October 2022, the youth allegedly stole a Toyota Rav4 from a caravan park in Alice Springs before using the vehicle in a ram raid incident at a licenced bottle shop, causing extensive damage and stealing a quantity of alcohol.

The 15-year-old has since been charged and remanded in custody to appear in court at a later date.
