Police make arrest - Robbery and assault - Bellamack

Two people who assaulted and robbed a woman in an unprovoked attack in Darwin on Sunday have been arrested and charged by Northern Territory Police.

Around 1:20am a member of the public flagged down a Dog Operations Unit on Chung Wah Terrace and alerted the officer to an incident in which a 14-year-old male allegedly assaulted a 62-year-old female before knocking her off of her electronic scooter.

It is further alleged the youth rode around on the scooter until he was pursued by the victim and another female bystander. The youth was apprehended following a foot pursuit with police and was taken into custody.

An 18-year-old man is alleged to have fled the scene in the stolen scooter, but was arrested after a lengthy foot chase with the K9 handler, who he allegedly assaulted using a length of fencing.

The youth was charged with one count each of Aggravated robbery and Damage to property and was bailed to appear before court at a later date.

The man was charged with one count of Aggravated robbery, Trespass on premises, Assault a member of the police force and Resist police in the execution of duty. He will appear before Darwin Local Court today.
