The Northern Territory Police Force has arrested a male youth and apprehended three others after two vehicles were stolen in Darwin in the early hours of this morning.
Around 3am, it is alleged two vehicles were stolen from a residence in Wagaman. The two vehicles were reported to be driving dangerously in the area.
Members from Strike Force Trident and the Dog Operations Unit responded. One of the vehicles was stopped in Malak following a police pursuit and the successful deployment of tyre deflation devices.
A 13-year-old male was arrested, and three additional male youths aged 9, 10 and 11 were apprehended at the scene. The 9-year-old was conveyed home into the care of a responsible adult, and the 10 and 11-year-olds are to be dealt with under the provisions of the Youth Justice Act 2005.
The 13-year-old remains in police custody and is expected to be charged later today with driving a motor vehicle without consent and other driving offences.
The second stolen motor vehicle was located and recovered by police after it was abandoned in Casuarina.
Detective Acting Senior Sergeant Chris Humphries said, "This was yet another example of excellent teamwork between Strike Force Trident and the Dog Operations Unit.
"The teams' ability to respond quickly on mass, and apprehend offenders so swiftly, demonstrates their effectiveness and commitment to keeping the community safe."
