Police officers injured; man charged at Tenterfield

A man will face court today charged after police officers were injured during an arrest in the state's north yesterday.

About 8pm (Monday 8 February 2021), police were called to a property on Mount Lindsay Road, Tenterfield, after reports a man had attempted to enter the home before being stopped by the occupant, a 49-year-old woman.

Officers from New England Police District attended and confronted a 48-year-old man. While attempting to restrain him, the man is alleged to have punched a male constable in the face.

A female senior constable intervened and was also allegedly assaulted before the man was arrested.

The man continued to struggle, punching and kicking officers and OC spray was deployed.

The man was taken to Tenterfield Police Station where it is alleged the man refused to leave the police vehicle and another violent confrontation occurred.

During the struggle, the man allegedly punched and kicked the officers a number of times before he was able to be subdued and removed from the caged truck.

As a result, three officers were injured with the female senior constable suffering a bleeding nose, and a shoulder injury.

The man was charged with aggravated break and enter with intent - knowing person there, assault police officer in execution of duty cause actual bodily harm, assault police officer in execution of duty without actual bodily harm, and two counts of resist or hinder police officer in the execution of duty.

He was refused bail and will appear in Armidale Local Court today (Tuesday 9 February 2021).
