Police probe building fire in Zetland

A crime scene has been established following a fire that damaged a number of apartments in a residential building complex in Zetland this evening, NSW Police say.

About 6.20pm (Thursday 22 November 2018), emergency services were called after reports of a large fire in a number of bins next to an apartment block on Bindon Place, Zetland.

Due to extreme weather conditions, the fire spread from the garbage bins into the apartment block causing plumes of smoke and flames.

A number of residents were evacuated as Fire & Rescue NSW officers extinguished the blaze that caused significant damage to multiple units.

The cause of the fire is now under investigation by detectives from Redfern Police Area Command.

Anyone who may have seen anyone acting suspiciously around Bindon Place, or Defries Avenue in Zetland, between 6pm and 6.20pm, is urged to contact police.

Anyone with information about this incident is urged to contact Crime Stoppers.
