Shortly before 7pm (Tuesday 27 November 2018), police were called to a high-dependency dementia ward of a nursing home facility following reports of an assault between two patients.

On arrival police were notified that a 90-year-old man suffered serious injuries and was unable to be revived.

The second man, aged 77, is a resident of the high-dependency ward due to his dementia.

A crime scene has been established, and inquiries have commenced.

Police are working with the facilities manager and local health organisations.

A report will be prepared for the information of the Coroner.
