Police Probe Pursuit, Shooting in Guildford

An investigation is underway following a pursuit and shooting incident in Sydney's west last night.

About 9.20pm yesterday (Friday 8 May 2026), officers from Traffic and Highway Patrol Command attempted to stop a Nissan utility for a traffic offence in the South Wentworthville area.

When the driver failed to stop as directed, a pursuit was initiated.

The pursuit continued through several residential streets in Merrylands and Guildford. The Nissan utility was involved in a minor crash with another vehicle on Hawksview Street, Guildford.

The pursuit continued onto Guildford Road, Guildford, when the Nissan utility stopped near the intersection with Robertson Road.

The driver ran from the vehicle, and when doing so, has fired three to four shots in the air.

Officers from Cumberland Police Area Command, PolAir, Public Order and Riot Squad (PORS) and Dog Squad attended the scene and commenced a search for the driver, but he could not be located.

No injuries have been reported.

The driver is described as male and was seen wearing a bright orange shirt.

A crime scene has been established and inquiries into the incident are continuing.
