Police probe wounding in Newtown

A man has been hospitalised after being assaulted with a glass bottle in Newtown overnight, NSW Police say.

Just after 10pm today, police were called to King Street, following reports of an assault.

Police have been told a 24-year-old man was with friends outside a restaurant when approached by a man and a woman.

The two groups have become involved in an altercation before the 24-year-old man was struck with a glass bottle, causing a head laceration.

NSW Ambulance paramedics attended and treated the man before he was taken to Royal Prince Alfred Hospital in a stable condition.

Officers from Newtown Local Area Command are investigating the incident.

Inquiries are continuing.

Police are urging anyone with information in relation to this incident to call Crime Stoppers.
