Police release CCTV in bid to locate murder witnesses

Detectives from the SA Police Major Crime Investigation Branch have today released CCTV footage in a bid to identify two people they wish to speak to as part of their inquiry into the murder of a man at Hackham West in September.

The body of Shaun Russell was found, with critical injuries, in a playground in a reserve off Corinth/Honeypot roads on 28 September and he died a short time later.

A man and woman have been arrested and charged with the murder of the 36-year-old who lived at Hackham West.

Detective Inspector Billy Thompson, the operations manager of the Major Crime Investigation Branch, said police are seeking any witnesses who may have seen Mr Russell (pictured) - or noticed any suspicious behaviour - on Saturday 28 September 2019 (AFL Grand Final Day), particularly in an area known locally as the 'Black Path'.

The 'Black Path' is a sealed walking and cycling path which runs north-south through a reserve in Hackham West and Huntfield Heights. (Image 1)

In particular police wish to speak to two people seen in the CCTV footage who were seen crossing Glynville Drive near the Hackham IGA heading north at 3.33pm on 28 September. (Image 2)

One of the people appears to be pushing something, which could be a pram, stroller or shopping trolley, and they appear to have a white dog walking beside them.

Detective Inspector Thompson said investigators were also keen to hear from anyone who may have attended the "Heart and Soul" food relief event hosted at the Hackham West Primary School in the late morning and early afternoon of that day who may have seen Mr Russell or witnessed people behaving suspiciously in the area.

Anyone with information that can assist police with this investigation is asked to call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000, or report online at www.crimestopperssa.com.au - you can remain anonymous.
