Police responding to fatal traffic crash at Abergowrie

The Forensic Crash Unit is investigating a fatal single vehicle crash that occurred on Elphinstone Pocket Road in Abergowrie, north of Townsville, this morning (December 27).

Initial investigations indicate between 12am and 9:40am, a silver-coloured Holden Astra was travelling along Elphinstone Pocket Rd before it left the road and crashed.

A 70-year-old Trebonne man is believed to have been the only person inside the car, and despite the efforts of a member of the public and responding emergency services, he succumbed to his injuries at the scene.

Police will now work to establish the circumstances of the crash and are appealing to anyone who may have seen the silver-coloured Astra in the area around the time of the incident, or may have relevant dashcam footage, to come forward.

Investigations are ongoing and no further information is available at this time.
