Police responding to fatal traffic crash at Raceview 16 January

The Forensic Crash Unit is investigating after an 80-year-old man was killed in a traffic crash at Raceview this afternoon, January 4.

Initial investigations indicate just before 1pm, a Toyota Rav4 was travelling along Robertson Road when it struck a motorised wheelchair near a pedestrian refuge island.

The man on the wheelchair, an 80-year-old Eastern Heights man, was declared deceased at the scene.

The driver of the Rav4, an 86-year-old Eastern Heights woman, was taken to Ipswich Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

It is understood the driver and man were not known to each other.

Witnesses or anyone with relevant vision is urged to contact police.

Investigations are continuing.
