Police responding to fatal traffic crash at Douglas

A young man has died following a serious motorcycle crash in Douglas early this morning.

At 1.15am, police will allege a motorcyclist and pillion rider were travelling along Riverside Boulevard when it has left the roadway and collided with a tree.

Both the motorcyclist and pillion rider were transferred to Townsville Hospital.

Later this morning around 4am, the motorcyclist, a 19-year-old Cranbrook man, succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased at the hospital.

The pillion rider, a 19-year-old Cranbrook man received treatment for minor injuries.

Police are appealing for anyone who may have seen the crash or the motorcyclist prior to, to contact police.

Forensic Crash Unit continue to investigate.
