Police responding to fatal traffic crash at Mareeba

A man has died after a traffic crash in Mareeba this morning.

Preliminary investigations indicate at around 11.55am a 19-year-old Mareeba man has pulled his ute over on the Kennedy Highway at Davies Creek (15 kilometres from Mareeba) to check on his vehicle.

After exiting the ute, the man was struck by a vehicle travelling along the highway.

The 19-year-old man was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The driver of the other vehicle was uninjured and is currently assisting police with their inquiries.

Police are appealing for anyone who may have witnessed or has dashcam footage of this crash or the moments leading up to it to come forward.

Forensic Crash Unit officers are investigating.
