Building a strong Canada starts with investing in the modern and reliable infrastructure that makes it possible to increase housing supply and create resilient communities.
The Build Communities Strong Fund is investing $51 billion in a wide range of infrastructure projects across the country that support economic prosperity, housing, sport, education, health, transit, and climate adaptation.
To that end, the federal government is investing up to $27.1 million through the Direct Delivery stream of the Build Communities Strong Fund for the Rutland Trunk Sewer project to improve drainage infrastructure, while the City of Winnipeg is contributing approximately $42.2 million.
The project will help build approximately 2.0 kilometres of land drainage trunk sewer within the Ferry Road combined sewer district. The new infrastructure will expand existing drainage capacity, support sewer separation, reduce the risk of basement flooding, and reduce combined sewer overflow volumes to the Red River and Assiniboine River, helping to protect water quality in Lake Winnipeg.
