Police responding to serious traffic crash at Helensvale

Police have declared an emergency situation on the Pacific Motorway (M1) at Helensvale after a serious multi-vehicle crash involving a fuel tanker this morning.

The Pacific Motorway is closed in both directions between the Gold Coast Highway (exit 62) and Smith Street (exit 66).

The fuel tanker involved overturned and spilt fuel in the southbound lanes of the motorway around 11.50am.

No one sustained serious injuries.

Police declared an emergency situation under the provisions of the Public Safety Preservation Act while crews render the crash scene safe.

Motorists intending to travel on the Pacific Motorway on the Gold Coast are urged to delay travel, take an alternate route or expect significant delays.
