Police search for missing swimmer concludes at Wagga Wagga

The search for a swimmer who reportedly did not resurface while in the Murrumbidgee River last week has concluded.

About 8.30pm on Tuesday 27 December 2022, emergency services responded to reports of a male person who was allegedly seen to submerge under the water and not resurface at Wagga Beach on Johnston Street, Wagga Wagga.

Officers from Riverina Police District commenced a search of the water and surrounding area, with assistance from the Volunteer Rescue Association, NSW SES and NSW Ambulance, including the helicopter and swift water rescue.

While there have still been no reports of a missing person, police – with assistance from the VRA – conducted twice daily patrols of the river for the past seven days, with no one located.

As a result, the search was called off today (Wednesday 4 January 2023).
