Police search for ute driver after Brunswick deaths

Homicide Squad detectives are appealing for public assistance to locate the driver of a ute who picked up a woman linked to the deaths of two men in Brunswick yesterday.

Emergency services were called to a Hope Street property about 5.20am on Thursday, 5 May following reports of a stabbing.

A 61-year-old Coburg man died en route to hospital, while a 59-year-old Brunswick man was located deceased at the address.

Shortly after, police received reports of a female covered in blood on board a city bound tram and a 44-year-old Brunswick woman was arrested in Carlton.

The woman was subsequently conveyed to hospital for treatment to a number of injuries.

She was discharged this afternoon and will now be interviewed by police.

The two men and the woman are all believed to be known to each other.

Detectives now believe that the woman was given a lift from the Brunswick area and dropped near the corner of Lygon and Pigdon Streets in Carlton North around 5.40am that morning.

She was subsequently arrested after she boarded the tram.

The vehicle which dropped her off was a dark coloured ute with tool boxes on the rear and a snorkel attached to the driver's side.

Detectives are appealing for information to identify the vehicle and its driver or for the driver of that vehicle to contact police.

At this time there is nothing to indicate that person was involved in the incident and is being treated as a witness only.

Investigators are appealing for anyone with information to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or submit a confidential report online at www.crimestoppersvic.com.auExternal Link
