Police Seek Assault Witnesses in Alice Springs 2 February

The Northern Territory Police Force is calling for witnesses in relation to an aggravated assault that occurred in Alice Springs yesterday evening.

Around 6:50pm, the Joint Emergency Services Communication Centre received a report that a 16-year-old female had been assaulted with an edged weapon on Gap Road in the vicinity of Stuart Terrace.

It is alleged the victim was approached by a 19-year-old male and a 17-year-old female, both known to her, when the male attempted to strike her to the head with an edged weapon. The victim blocked the strike with her hand before falling to the ground, where the female offender allegedly kicked her multiple times.

The victim was conveyed to the Alice Springs Hospital by a relative with serious injuries to her hand.

Police attended the hospital and commenced investigations. The 17-year-old offender was subsequently located and arrested a short time later. She has since been charged with Aggravated assault and will appear in court today.

The 19-year-old male remains outstanding, and investigations are ongoing to locate him.
