Police seek help to find man and two vehicles after Emerald shooting

Armed Crime Squad detectives have today released images and CCTV footage of a man and a two vehicles as part of the ongoing investigation into an aggravated burglary and shooting in Emerald last year.

Three men forced their way into a property on Cornish Road about 4.30am on 10 June 2019.

Once inside, they threatened the three occupants of the house with a firearm and made demands for cash.

One of the men has discharged the firearm, shooting a 53-year-old Emerald man in the leg.

The trio have then left the property and are believed to have driven off in a white Kia Sorrento with false number plates 100 4XI.

The victim was subseuqntly taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Two other people who were also at home at the time were not physically injured.

The Kia was seen later that morning travelling inbound on the Monash Freeway, with a second vehicle driving in close convoy.

This vehicle is described as a 2012 model grey Mitsubishi Outlander, and police have released an image of a vehicle similar to this.

Police believe the vehicles have subsequently travelled north along the Hume Highway and the white Kia was seen in Goulburn, NSW on 12 June, when it was involved in a petrol drive-off about midday.

Detectives have today released CCTV and images of the Kia in the hope that someone may recognise it or have information on its current whereabouts.

They have also released an image of a man who was with the Kia at the time of the petrol drive-off in Goulburn.

Police are particularly keen to speak to anyone who may have sighted the vehicles as they travelled north, and believe it is likely they were headed to Sydney.

Acting Inspector Paul Lloyd from the Armed Crime Squad said investigators are confident that someone out there knows who is responsible for the shooting.

"We do believe this was a targeted attack, however the victim did not know the offenders so we're keen to try and determine why the shooting has occurred and what the motivations were," he said.

"There will be people out there who know exactly why this shooting occurred and who is responsible, and we'd like to speak to those people.

"Any incident involving a firearm is extremely concerning to us and is of course alarming for the victims.

"They are extremely lucky that the injuries weren't more serious or even fatal."

A/Insp Lloyd said police were also keen to try and determine the route the offenders have taken when travelling north.

"We know they have head north to Goulburn and we're keen to know if they stopped anywhere along the way," he said.

"The fact they've gone on and continued to commit offences interstate highlights how important it is that we locate them and prevent further harm to the community.

"If anyone recognises this person or the two cars, saw them in the area at the time of the shooting or the petrol drive-off, or who knows where they are now, then we would like to speak to them.

"I'd like to reiterate that this can be done so anonymously through Crime Stoppers."

Anyone with information or recognises either of the vehicles is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or report online at www.crimestoppersvic.com.au
