Police seek help to find missing hiker - Kosciuszko National Park

Police are searching for a man who is overdue after a hike on the main range of Kosciuszko National Park.

On Wednesday (12 June 2019), a 44-year-old man from Queensland set off by himself to walk the main range track.

It is believed the man intended to walk from Charlotte Pass Village to Blue Lake, along the ridge to the summit of Mt Kosciuszko and then camp at Seaman's Hut overnight.

The man has not been seen or heard from since. He was due to return by 10am yesterday (Thursday 13 June) and has not made contact.

Around 8pm yesterday (Thursday 13 June), two Alpine Operations Unit operators were deployed using over snow transport to Seaman's Hut. A subsequent search of the area failed to find any trace of the man.

It is believed the man was carrying adequate food, water, clothing, shelter and a Personal Locator Beacon (PLB).

Officers from the NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service and the NSW State Emergency Service are assisting with the search.
