Police seek help to locate vehicle after Fawkner shooting

Armed Crime Squad detectives are appealing for public assistance to locate a vehicle after a man was shot in Fawkner today.

It's believed the occupants of a Mazda SUV fired shots into a Mercedes station wagon on Box Forest Road shortly before 12pm.

The offending car fled, crashing into a fire hydrant and pole on Box Forest Road, near Sydney Road.

The occupants ran from the damaged vehicle and carjacked a nearby Ford Territory before driving off.

The carjacking victims, a female driver and child, were not physically injured during the incident.

The victim, a 30-year-old Preston man, was taken to Fawkner Police Station with gunshot wounds.

He was transported to hospital in a critical condition.

Investigators believe the shooting was a targeted attack.

Detectives have released an image of a 2004 black Ford Territory wagon, registration 1TD 3RZ in the hope someone may know of its whereabouts.
