Police are appealing for information following reports of a a robbery in the Monaro region.
About 6pm yesterday (Friday 24 April 2026), a 56-year-old man was driving through the Tallaganda State Forest at Harolds Cross, when he saw a pigging dog standing in the middle of the road and stopped to check on it, as he believed it might have escaped a residence backing onto the forest.
The man put the dog in his vehicle with the intention of trying to locate the owner.
A short time later, a vehicle described as a white older model Toyota Hilux dual cab with numerous spotlights approached the man from the direction of the Tallaganda State Forest.
The men in the Hilux got out and approached the 56-year-old man, who was assaulted by one of the men. Some of his personal property was also taken. The males retrieved the dog before leaving the area in the Hilux.
Officers from Monaro Police District have commenced an investigation into the incident.
Police are seeking information about an older model (late 1990s - early 2000s) white Toyota Hilux dual cab utility, with a tub back and a black wire dog cage. The Hilux may have had ACT registration plates attached.
The first male is described as being about 180cm tall, Caucasian in appearance, of solid build, clean shaven, with light coloured hair. He was wearing a brown vest.
The second male is described as being of Caucasian appearance, solid build, with medium-length dark hair and a beard. He was wearing a red flannelette shirt.
There were three dogs in the back of the Hilux utility – one lighter in colour, two black in colour.
