Police seek information after sexual assault at Lake Illawarra

Police have released an image of a vehicle as they continue to investigate the alleged sexual assault of a woman in the state's Lake Illawarra region earlier this month.

Just before 7pm on Tuesday 1 November 2022 – Melbourne Cup Day – emergency services were called to a shopping complex on Cove Boulevard, Shell Cove, following reports a woman had been sexually assaulted.

A crime scene was established by officers attached to Lake Illawarra Police District and forensically examined.

Detectives have since established Strike Force Onix to further investigate the circumstances of the incident.

As inquiries continue, detectives have released a CCTV image of a vehicle of interest to the investigation.

The vehicle – a blue Toyota Landcruiser – has been modified to include a flat rack and sun awning on its roof, and has black wheels including a spare on its rear door.

Police have also released a description of a man they wish to speak to.

The man is described as being of Caucasian appearance, with a large build, has tattooed forearms, and was wearing a black t-shirt and grey shorts.
