Detectives from the Colac Crime Investigation Unit are appealing for witnesses to come forward after a man was stabbed during an unprovoked assault in Colac last night.
It's understood the 24-year-old man was sitting on a footpath when he was approached by two unknown males on Gellibrand Street about 9pm.
The men punched and stabbed the victim several times before fleeing on foot towards Murray Street.
The victim managed to walk to a nearby medical facility where he was later airlifted to a Melbourne hospital with serious head injuries.
Police have commenced an investigation and are appealing for anyone who may have witnessed the incident to come forward.
Detectives are especially keen to speak with the occupants of two vehicles who drove through Gellibrand Street at the time of the incident and may have witnessed it.
