Police seek witnesses, dashcam vision over Lismore shooting

Police are appealing for witnesses and vision as investigations continue into the death of a man after he was shot by Corrective Services' officers at Lismore overnight.

Officers from Richmond Police District were called to Lismore Base Hospital about 7.30pm yesterday (Friday 15 March 2019), after reports of a shooting outside the hospital.

They found a 43-year-old man critically injured after being shot by Corrective Services' officers while allegedly attempting to escape.

The man was immediately treated in hospital but died a short time later.

Richmond Police District is investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident, assisted by the NSWPF Corrective Services Investigation Unit (CSIU), and the SCC Homicide Squad.

Investigators are now appealing for anyone who may have witnessed the incident – or has relevant dashcam vision – and who has not yet spoken with police, to contact Lismore Police or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.

Two Corrective Services officers are assisting police with inquiries.
