Police seek witnesses following armed supermarket robbery in Hawkesbury

Detectives are appealing for information following an armed robbery at a supermarket in the Hawkesbury at the weekend, NSW Police say.

About 10.15pm on Sunday (18 December 2016), two armed men were located in office area of a supermarket on Market Street, Richmond.

Police were told the men – one who was armed with a handgun with a long barrel, and the other armed with a jemmy bar – threatened three staff members, demanding cash.

The duty manager handed over cash before the men ran from the store onto Paget Street, and headed in an unknown direction. No one was injured.

Police from Hawkesbury Local Area Command attended the supermarket and despite extensive searches of the area, the men were not located.

A crime scene was established and examined by specialist forensic officers.

Initial inquiries indicated the men had cut a hole in the roof and entered the office through the roof cavity.

Detectives are investigating the robbery and are appealing for witnesses to come forward.

The first man is described as being of Caucasian appearance, about 160cm-165cm tall, with a solid build, and blue-hazel eyes. At the time he was wearing a black balaclava, a tan/brown jacket, grey trackpants and gloves.

The second man is described as being about 180cm tall, with a medium build. At the time he was wearing a black balaclava, a black jacket, dark blue trackpants, sports shoes and gloves.

In particular, detectives would like to speak with anyone who may have been in the area at the time and noticed a suspicious vehicle in the area or suspicious activity on the roof of the shopping centre.

Police are urging anyone with information in relation to this incident to call Crime Stoppers.
