Police seek witnesses - Stolen Motor Vehicle in Alice Springs

Northern Territory Police are calling for witnesses after a stolen motor vehicle was used to ram two vehicles in Alice Springs overnight.

About 12:35am this morning, a white Toyota Hilux utility was stolen from Elder Street.

The utility was seen driving dangerously through the CBD on the incorrect side of the road with a number of youths in the cabin and tray of the vehicle.

At 1:15am, the utility rammed an unmarked police vehicle on two occasions before ramming a civilian vehicle on Bath Street. No police or members of the public were injured.

About 2:00am, four passengers were seen exiting the utility and fleeing on foot.

For a period of approximately 30 minutes, the utility was driven dangerously through the CBD before the driver lost control and crashed into a roundabout with the utility becoming un-driveable.

Police had been tracking the vehicle's movements and arrested the 19-year-old driver who remains in custody while police continue with their enquiries.

Acting Commander Kirsten Engels said "This behaviour is absolutely disgraceful and could have resulted in serious harm or death to members of the public or police officers.

"I urge anyone with information who could help us find the other occupants of the stolen vehicle to contact Police on 131 444 or you can report anonymously via Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000."
