Police seek witnesses to assault at footy match in Oak Park

Moreland Criminal Investigation Unit detectives are appealing for witnesses after a teenage boy was assaulted during a local football game in Oak Park on Saturday,1 May.

Police were called to the Francis Street reserve just before 2pm following reports a player had been assaulted.

Investigators have been told the 16-year-old victim was playing on the field when a man punched him to the face.

The teen was transported to hospital by ambulance paramedics with non-life-threatening injuries.

A 33-year-old Campbellfield man was arrested and interviewed on 4 May in relation to the matter and released pending further enquiries.

Police spoke to several witnesses at the scene and are urging anyone else who witnessed the incident or has video footage to call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or file a confidential report online at www.crimestoppersvic.com.au
